I went to start my computer today and everything was going fine untill the last second when the following warning appeared:

Quote:
Invalid VxDdynamic link called from CIF340DF to device "000C", service. Yor Windows configuration is Invalid. Run the Windows Setup Program again to correct this problem.

After given the choice to contunion or not. I did contunion.

That is when I found out that while my (usb/wireless) mouse worked, there was no pointer (or anyother "mouse display") on the screen. I can go over a Ikon and it would highlight, and the mouse commands worked. But, no arrow. 8O

UPDATE: Try booting into save made, and while my USB mouse won't work without its driver, I did see the mouse pointer amd hourglass "ikons" and I did not get the "configuration is invalid" warning

So, I thought OK I'll reinstall Windows from the CD, but, when I when to try I found out that as far as the computer knows I have no CD and DVD drives. Even tho they sho up in the BIOS. 8O 8O

Checking under System I found that both drives are listed as "device has a problem" Code=10CoxA

At this point I went to the Startup floppy.

But, after using it, (and remembering to say "yes" to loading the CD drives, came the real shock 8-O

When I when to try to start the Windows CD I got this message:

Quote:
Windows Setup requires largest executable program size to be 442,368 to run

In fact when I tried to run scandisk for my C: and D: drives under the startup floppy I also got a message that "there is not enought free conventional memory to run."

What in the :oshit: is going on?

In the past I usually used the Windows 98 CD to "fix" such problems, but, if I can't even get to the disk what can I do?

Any help

Your first error message is saying the mouse driver is corrupted or incompatible with the mouse..."000C" is the virtual mouse driver.

"Invalid VxD dynamic link call from <Part 1> to device <Part 2>, service <Part 3>" error message
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/137335

You say you are using a wireless USB mouse. Does it need new batteries? Did you just install it or install new drivers for it? Replace it temporarily with a standard wired mouse...PS/2 if you have a PS/2 mouse port...and see if starts in normal and safe modes.

For your Code 10 error for the optical drives, if you installed iTunes, uninstall it and reboot, and see if that brings the optical drives back. Otherwise, start in Safe Mode with a working WIRED mouse, open Device Manager, expand the CDROM Drive category, and delete all the CD drives listed there, then click OK and restart in normal mode.

RE: your Error Message: Windows Setup Requires Largest Executable Program Size to Be at Least 4,442,368 Bytes

# Your hard drive space may be incorrectly reported
# You installed drive overlay software, but you did not follow the correct installation sequence. For example, you may have to press the SHIFT key or use a similar keystroke combination to start your computer when you use a disk.
# The computer has a virus.
# The computer has failing or faulty hardware.

You've got some work ahead of you.
How old is this computer?
How old is the hard drive?
How much free space is on the hard drive?

I have some good newa

And some bad news :-(

The good news is that after eraseing my wireless mouse's driver, getting a PS2 wired mouse, and some deleating/reboting I nologer get any more Invalid VxD dynamic link errors.

And I have a working mouse again :D

The bad news is that I still can't get my computer to notice the CD/DVD drives

I did what you wrote and got into safe mode and erased all the CD drives listed there, then click OK and restart in normal mode.

But when I got back into full windows the computer noticed the "new drive" and installed drivers. However, the CD/DVD drives do not show up, and when I go to System properties I get the following same message under (and a big yellow "!" next to) Standard FloppyDisk Controller,Primary IDE Controller (duel filo), and Secondary IDE Controller (duel filo):

Quote:
This device not present, not work property, or does not have all the drivers installed (code10)

And if I try to inatall "better" drivers I get this:

Quote:
The best drivers winds found is already installed

So, now what do I do :?:

BTW: I haven't try to fix the problem of why my computer willnot start Windows Setup from the CD. Microsoft's answer assumes that can access the CD from with-in windows. Which at this point I can't

One step at a time.....

Start in SAFE MODE again.
Open Device Manager.
Expand the Floppy Disk Controller category and delete everything there.
Expand the Hard Disk Controllers category and delete the IDE Controller, and any ESDI Controller if shown.
You won't be able to delete the "child" controllers (Primary and Secondary dual fifo), but delete all the others listed.
Expand the CDROM category and delete all of them again.
Click OK, and restart in normal mode again.

Please answer the questions I asked at the end of my last reply.
Also, is this a brand-name computer? If so, what make and model is it?
If home-built or custom-built, what motherboard is in it?

I tiied what you said (more then once) and went into safe mode and erased the the cstegories you told me to.

Then I rebooted into full windows where the computer loaded the "new" drivers.

But, still no CD/Hard Drive 8-O 8-O

I have my floppy drive/2 hard drives/Zip drive/USB Card reader, but no CD/DVD drives.

And in device manager (see atachment) there is no CD drive category, still yellow "!", and the "this device not presemt..." message

Now what?

BTW - Since you asked about it. My computer is home made with a (installed 11/05) Chaintesh S1689 motherboard, ULi M1689 chipset, AMD Athlon 64 3000+ 1800Mhz CPU, and 1024MB memory.

Enter BIOS setup, and see if your primary and secondary IDE controllers are enabled and also set to Auto, and if you floppy controller is enabled.

That mobo also has SATA ports...are any of your drives SATA? What are you SATA settings in the BIOS?

Entered BIOS and the answer is Yes. My IDE controllers are enabled and set to Auto.

This is what they report:

IDE Channel 1 Master: CW058S ATAPI CD-R/W
IDE Channel 2 Slave: DVD DC DQ50

And my Floppy drive is correctly listed as a 1.44, 3.5m

As for mu Hard Drives?

Their EDIE drives , and I have the SATA option turned off in BIOS

Also, as a possible help, I am including the bootlog. Maybe there is something in it that can help.

And, thank you for still trying to help.

Your are a :ugeek:  :P

There is a primary and a secondary IDE controller, each with two channels. The secondary controller will usually have the optical drives. Where's the primary with your hard drive(s)?? You don't list it at all in your BIOS findings.

My ( Phoenix - Award Workstation) BIOS dated 07/12/05 does not use the words "primary" and "secondary."

My 2 Hard drives are listed at being on Channel 0 Master and Channel 0 Slave

While the CD/DVD drives are listed as on Channel 1 MAster and Channel 1 Slave

Open the Registry Editor (regedit.exe) and navigate in the left pane to this key:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\CurrentControlSet\Services\VxD\IOS

Select the IOS key in the left pane to see its contents in the right pane.
look for a value named NOIDE in the right pane.
If found, right-click on it and click Delete on the menu that appears.
Close Regedit.

Go here: http://support.microsoft.com/default.as ... roduct=w98
and download the .exe file to install the updated esdi_506.pdr, even if you already have it:
http://download.microsoft.com/download/ ... 50usa8.exe

Then run the downloaded file to install the updated file, and reboot. This will ensure the file you have is not corrupted.

Reboot and see if there is any change.

You could have a virus......

YOUR THE MAN :!:

I did what you wrote in the last post and both my CD and DVD drives are noticed and working again in Windows. Plus I got the mouse arrow to appear when I use my wireless mouse. So all is fine with the world.

However, I am still getting a yellow "!" next to the "standard Floppy Disk Controller" listing in system properties. But, since I have no problem with my floppy drive,it does not have to be fixed.

So, again thank you, and maybe someday I'll upgrade to Windows 7 (at which time Windows 13 should be out :winky: )

For the floppy disk controller issue, try replacing the hsflop.pdr from the CAB files on your Win98 CD.

Find the current hsflop.pdr on your system (it should be at \windows\system\iosubsys folder...if it's not, that's the problem), rename it with a .bak or .old extension.

Extract hsflop.pdr from the .cab files on your Windows CD, or from the .cab file location on your hard drive, to the \windows\system\iosubsys folder, using the "Extract one file" option of System File Checker (SFC), then restart.

Using SFC to extract a file:
